Celebration

As some of you might already know I celebrated my 21st birthday at the weekend. As I had been busy all week with my birthday and trips away Jess and I hadn't had the opportunity to celebrate receiving first class honour degree's. So we decided to celebrate at my birthday party. We shook up our bottle of champagne and let it pop, before toasting our future as a successful creative team.

Hand in

So we handed in our Final Major Project, yheahhhhyyyyy! Its been 6 months of hard work, sleepless nights and being social recluses but its done. Iv included a few photos of what and how we handed in our work.

This is now our very final week at University. As all you advertising people know, its not just the idea that gets you the job, its the pitch and the way you sell your idea. So on Friday we have our Viva, the presentation of all of our work that finalises our mark and we must nail it!

Back to uni

Well, we officially have 10 days until hand in. And we aren't going to lie, we are bricking it! We still have to do 3 research and development books, a book on crit and placement, print everything out, mount it and finally finish our website...... it's going to be a busy 10 days.

We had an amazing time on placement at Cravens, after doing a 2 week placement we seemed to make a good impression and they asked us to come back. Because of the amount of work we have to do for our final hand in we could only agree to an extra 2 weeks or we would have simply failed our degree. But, them extra 2 weeks were fun and an excellent experience! We ate about 30 bags of sweets whilst on placement and managed to clock up about 200 pages of work. While there we worked on 6 briefs but we were most proud of our Touch Rugby campaign which was mocked up by the digital team and sent to the client.

On our final day at Cravens I was lucky enough to win lunch for all the office from Pret A Manager by entering 'cow's tongue, cottage cheese and tomato ketchup' as the most weirdest but edible sandwich on to their daily competition. As you will guess the office was over the moon with the winning and the lunch was devoured within minutes.

NOW, back to the stress!

Monday Morning comes so fast

So its Monday and we are back at Cravens after 3 weeks away. We are back working on live briefs and we love it, we never want to leave....... But we must because we have our final ever uni hand in on 3rd June and we have a sickening amount of work to do before hand in.

Last week we spent our time in London, we made the stupid decision (AGAIN) to travel down by night bus (for anyone thinking about it... don't do it! Trying to sleep in the confined space, unbearable heat, running to the nasty smelling toilet to be sick every few hours and battling to stay on your seat with the jerking is worth the extra money you pay for the train). But it was worth it when we got their....... at 6:20am.
First we had a book crit with Angus George at Rapier. After getting lost due to tourist information sending us and hour in the wrong direction we managed to find Rapier and a very patient Angus who had waited 2 hours for us. We must say, he has got to be one of the friendliest people we have ever met, he sat with us for an hour and gave us loads of handy tips about our work and presentation that we are following up, so thank you Angus.

We had just enough time to pop to our hostel have a nap and we were straight back out for UNITE III.

After being lucky enough to even get a place we were very excited to attend. After a warm welcome from Luke Wicker from YCC and a quick chat with Andy Peel we were ready for as many book crits as we could get.

We set up our work, spread out our business cards and put out a box of sweets to lure in potential book crits.

On the night we managed to get a book crit off Proximity, AIS and Weapon 7. We will be keeping in contact with the people we met as they all had great ideas, advice and were are great people so thank you!

Unite III & the end of life as we know it.

WE DID IT! We made the cut! We got through to Unite III and we are far to over excited. Check out what YCC had to say about the judging http://youngcreativecouncil.wordpress.com/2011/04/27/unite-iii-judging/. We booked our buses and hostels before we found out the results as we had decided if we didn't get chosen we were just going to camp outside anyway and make people look at our work but the lovely people at YCC thought we were worth a seat inside which is a much better idea. We are in London for two whole days after being daring or daft enough to book night buses there and back so hopefully we will get a chance to see lots of agencies during the days.
It is now 5 weeks till we hand in. We have too much work its scary and we are in London for one week, on placement for two weeks then have two final weeks for panic attacks and serious talks before our university life is over. Doesn't seem like two minutes ago we were just starting off at University looking up at the work of Dani Brown & Paul Mann and Chris Rush & Andy Peel and thinking I CAN'T DO THAT! Be we have survived somehow, just got to make it to graduation and we have done it.

Day one Week two

Well after one week here at Cravens in Newcastle we have learnt

*Get on the good side of the receptionist
*Leave at 5:30pm don't wait for someone to tell you to go or you will be there all night.
*Bring lots of food to snack on
*Advertising agencies have an hour and half for lunch due to an old printers law...sweeeet!

We are really enjoying our time here, last week as the creative director was away we got his office which was filled with an obscene amount of markers — every colour you could imagine - Is safe to say Jess had a field day playing with them.

This week however the Creative director is back so we have an office just down the corridor which has no markers but is a lot warmer, which we are grateful of.

Anyway the work - So far we have worked on Scottish Swimming, Rugby league - Touch Rugby and The National Trust. So its been a challenge and a change from the products we usually pick to work on but a challenge we have enjoyed.

The word on the street is we will be working on London Zoo this week so that's exciting.

Overall we love it and cant wait to be real live creative's with real jobs........Bring it on!

long time

Its been a few weeks since we have wrote on here that's because we have been super busy, which is very exciting. We have been to book crits around Newcastle and building up our contacts. From out little Newcastle tour we have managed to settle a two week placement at Cravens which we start on Monday and we are working with Drummond Central on a piece of work, so life is moving fast. Last week was hectic, as it was the end of our University term (even though it isn't Easter holidays yet it still meant hand-in). For this term we had to hand in our university work, which consisted of our book we have been working on since Xmas, you can find most of this work at www.eveandjess.co.uk, also last week we entered in to the YCN awards with our take on their P&O Ferries brief.

Now our Final Major Project is our main piece of work. We have been working on it since Xmas but now it has our full attention, so look out for much more to come from us :)

D&AD

After a bit of a stress and 24hours we managed to pull together a PDF of work to take with us to the D&AD open day at Northumbria University on 9/02/11. Our work consisted off new ideas and updated old work. We arrived early and managed to get a book crit from Rob Butcher from Brave advertising, which was very exciting. He seemed happy with our work and gave some feedback, we were over the moon with his comments and were on high. After we went to the Thoughtful agency workshop, which was very inspiring. They told us about setting up agencies on our own and gave us some helpful tips such as; conversation not presentation and you can get anywhere with hunger over talent. Finally we went along to the industry talk with Rhiannon James which opened our eyes wider in to the world of D&AD. Overall Jess and I left feeling optimistic and eager to crack the advertising world.

Thanks D&AD
